A rectangular platform supports the item, with a band of river rocks at the base for texture and interest. The feeding station rests above the rocks, with vertical supports which elevate the shingled roof. The fly-through design encourages use by several types of backyard birds, while the screened platform on the base holds a variety of seed or feed. This platform accommodates 0.3 quarts of mixed or sunflower seed, and can also hold suet, seed cakes, or fruit to attract different birds to the area. The screened section removes for thorough cleaning, and holes on the bottom of the structure allow any captured water to drain easily. The wide base may be mounted onto a post or pole with the included 5" x 5" mounting plate, and the black roof and white body create an elegant color scheme. The wooden construction will withstand use for several seasons, and the feeder's open design offers exceptional views of avian activity. Note: Should you want to preserve the finish (paint) of this feeder, you should select a polyurethane product that is recommended for marine use (UV Rated) that will not turn the white paint yellow. You should expect that once left outside, the product will weather and require refinishing.
