Wren / Chickadee Houses (286 Wren / Chickadee Houses)
Chickadees and wrens have long been favorite visitors at bird feeders, and their sounds and songs have delighted man for centuries. These birds are two of the few species who do not mind their home swinging in a breeze. Because of this, many wren and chickadee homes are designed to be hung from a hook, rather than pole or post mounted. Homes that are wall, post, or pole mounted have seen success as well. The birds prefer a small entrance hole, from 1" to 1.5" in diameter, to accommodate their small bodies while preventing larger birds from entering. Diamond shaped homes with a flat bottom have seen increased success, creating a unique shape and size just right for these small birds. The homes do not require a perch, although one may be present with little to no danger of other birds taking over the roost.
