The design and shape of this home evokes ancient buildings found in China, with a steeply pitched roof and supports sweeping upward in each corner. A raised tile pattern on the roof adds texture to the home, while the bright orange color brings more interest. Maroon accents on the support columns and imitation doors and windows contrast the orange roof and offer a traditional color scheme. The numbers "888" rest above the door, signifying good luck in Chinese culture, and also commemorating the opening date of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Chinese characters reading "good fortune" flank the door as well. On two sides of the home, 1.125" diameter entrance holes allow birds to enter. The center of the home is divided by a wall, for two avian families to roost at once. The interior is unpainted to protect nestlings, and the back has a removable panel for seasonal cleaning and checking. A drainage hole on each side aids in keeping nests dry, and ventilation holes at the roof line keep the interior temperature regulated.
