When an animal touches the charged fence wire or polytape, the charge passes through its body and into the earth to the ground rod, which completes the circuit. If the animal and the fence are not properly grounded, the electrical circuit cannot be completed and no shock will be felt. This ground rod comes complete with a grounding clamp for attaching wire from the ground terminal of your fence energizer.
