The slanted roof has a significant overhang to prevent rain from entering the home, while ventilation slots on either side of the roof keep the interior temperature regulated. Angled corners and a recessed bottom at the base of the home offer drainage to the nest, keeping it dry. The absence of a perch, combined with the deep form of the home, help prevent predators from reaching the eggs. A ladder underneath the door inside the box aids nestlings in exiting the house when called by the mother, and the included bag of wood chips offers nesting material for the birds. One side panel lifts upward for easy cleaning and nest checks, and a small metal latch in the corner keeps it securely closed. The 0.75" thick wood helps insulate the home, while the light color of the unfinished pine keeps it cool in the summer.
