Backyard Pest Control
Summer has arrived, and with it hours of enjoyment outdoors. However, along with the great outdoors comes some less desirable company, such as flies, moths, mosquitoes, and even larger animals such as mice, rats, and raccoons. Keep your summer free of nuisance wildlife by using some of our pest control products.
It is imperative to keep your home and garden free of pests. Not only are insects a nuisance, they often can bite, sting, or transmit diseases. Bees, wasps, and hornets can sting and, according to the National Pest Management Association, send approximately half a million people to the emergency room each year. Even more at risk are those who have allergies to insect stings, which can be fatal if not treated immediately. A more serious health hazard occurs with mosquitoes. Currently, mosquitoes carry West Nile Virus, Malaria, and Dengue Fever. Each of these diseases is potentially fatal if not identified and treated properly. Other land dwelling pests like mice, rats, and squirrels can also carry diseases such as rabies. They pose a more substantial risk to your garden, as they often eat the best produce before you can harvest it. Additionally, mice and rats often look for food in your trash, carrying any germs in the trash with them wherever they travel. In order to protect yourself from such hazards, place a few natural pest control devices in your yard. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, Oil of Citronella has been used as a safe and effective repellent for mosquitoes, black flies, fleas, and ticks. The odor of Oil of Citronella is unpleasant to some insects, thus preventing them from infesting your area. Other types of natural control involve traps which use pheromones and the natural instincts and behaviors of the animal to lure it into the trap. Many products call for household items such as water and dish soap for full effectiveness. For larger animals, use a humane trap to keep them out of your yard. Be sure to choose a trap that is the correct size for your animal, and bait it but do not set it for a few days. This allows the animal to become accustomed to the trap before use. Whether you want to protect your family or just enjoy the outdoors more, we have a large selection of citronella candles, insect traps, animal repellents, and humane traps just right for you.
