Hearth for the Holidays
The holidays are the perfect time to gather with loved ones and pass traditions on to newer generations. Many of those well-loved traditions include or are centered around a fireplace. Whether your tradition is making Christmas popcorn or simply hanging stockings from your mantle, keeping your fireplace safe and looking great will surely make your celebrations more memorable.
For many, a favorite aspect of the holidays involves enjoying delicious snacks, some of which are timeless favorites. Pop your favorite popcorn over the fire with a popcorn popper, or toast marshmallows to perfection above the flames. A long handled skillet can make toasting nuts a simple task. They produce a wonderful aroma and can be covered with sweet toppings or savory herbs for a memorable treat. Wood or gas fires are both acceptable for cooking these snacks, which offer fun for the whole family. A well-appointed hearth often forms a striking focal point. Decorate your fireplace with a coordinating tool set, log bin, and fire screen. Stockings from the mantle bring a charming look to the scene, while hearth crickets or other statuary create a whimsical look. For a natural theme, press leaves in a nature press and paint them in holiday colors with spray paint. Hang these on your tree, or place them on the mantle with pine cones and other holiday classics for a unique, creative touch. Taking small precautions to keep your fireplace safe allows you to focus on your time with guests. For a safe wood burning fire, place the logs on a log rack so air may flow around them, creating an even burn. Ensure the fireplace is clean and place a spark guard or firescreen in front of the flames to protect the surrounding area from sparks. Long handled tongs, pokers, gloves, and grabbers allow you to keep your hands away from the hot flames. Ensure that the damper is open so that smoke is directed upwards out of your chimney rather than back into the room. These simple and straightforward measures help ensure a safe and happy gathering. Many of us eagerly anticipate our long held traditions and spending quality time with family and friends. Often, this includes gathering around a hearth for conversation, snacks, and gifts. Having a safe, clean, and well decorated fireplace provides a perfect backdrop for stockings, and a wonderful centerpiece for making fun snacks for all ages. We carry a large line of fireplace tools and accessories, fire cooking products, and statuary for all your fire decorating needs. Some of our firescreens, decorations, and stocking stuffers appear below. To view all of our exciting products, please visit us at BestNest.com.
