A generously overhanging roof on each keeps the interior dry, while gaps in each corner of the bases allow any excess water to drain from the nest. Two gaps in the top corners help ventilate the homes for a healthy atmosphere. The front panels lift upward for nest checks when needed, and a sturdy screw keeps the items closed. An additional wooden panel inside the home acts as a barrier to prevent nestlings from falling out when the door is opened. For more versatility, move the panel upward in the winter to close each house. The 0.625" thick wooden construction aids in insulating these roosts, and a rendering of a woodpecker on the front of them adds a bit of style.
