Owls & kestrels have been a welcome sight in many areas, as they diminish the pest population with their hunting abilities. Screech owls, saw-whet owls, and kestrels require a 3" diameter hole, while larger barn owls and barred owls prefer a 6" diameter entrance. These homes can be post, wall, or pole mounted from 10' to 30' high for utmost success. Ensuring that a good food source is nearby helps with occupancy rates. Keeping the home away from a light source allows the owls to rest in the day. Place the home near the edge of a forest or along a field line to ensure these raptors find plenty of food.
