The generous planting area can accommodate herbs or flowers with limited root systems, while the large gap between the planter bed and the bottom shelf creates room for tomato, cucumber, or pepper plants. Each of the slats which form the base of the bed has a notch in them, and can easily be removed from the frame. Lift two of these adjacent slats and place the stem of your vegetable plant between these notches, securing the roots inside the planter bed. This allows the vegetables to suspend beneath the planter, while the roots are covered by soil and obtain the nutrients and moisture needed for proper growth. Perforations on each of the base slats also collect excess water, preventing overwatering. The deep design of this bed enables you to cover the vegetable roots with soil, and cultivate smaller plants above them. Crafted from durable vinyl, this unit will maintain its lovely white color for several seasons, and requires little maintenance to look great. The beadboard style siding and pointed endcaps add an architectural feel, and the bottom shelf offers storage for your watering can or potting tools.
