The exterior rim of the unit reads "To forget how to dig the earth and to tend the soil is to forget ourselves," with Roman numerals below the phrase. An abstract flower shape rests at the bottom of the dial, and rays emanating from the flower reach to each of the numerals for added design. A curved gnomon connects to the center of the dial with the included hardware, and casts a shadow over the appropriate hours when oriented facing celestial north. Green colors beneath the raised bronze details add an antique feel to the item, and the curves on the gnomon further the look. The dial is made from a stone and polymer composite, covered with bronze for weather resistance and durability.
