The thermometer reads rare, medium rare, medium, and well done for red meat, but automatically defaults to well done for chicken and turkey. The 6.5" long stainless steel probe can reach into large cuts of meat, and the generous three feet of cord allow you to place the sensor comfortably on the outside of your grill or oven. A red LED on the sensor flashes to indicate that it is working, and a continuous beep from the monitor notifies you that your meal is ready.
