A black, lapped roof overhangs the entries, protecting the nests from rain, and a gap beneath each helps ventilate the shelter. Routed lines slightly above the base hold a wire mesh screen, which acts as a nest lift to prevent blowfly infestations. The front panels raise upward to check the nests, and skerfs here help nestlings reach the holes when ready to exit.
