The 2.625" diameter entrance hole is surrounded by a metal predator guard, to prevent it from being enlarged. The deep cavity keeps nestlings safe, as predators are not able to reach so far into the box. The overhang of the roof keeps the interior dry, while gaps in each corner of the base allow any excess water to drain from the nest. Two gaps in the top corners help ventilate the home for a healthy atmosphere. The front panel lifts upward for nest checks when needed, and a sturdy screw keeps the item closed. An additional wooden panel inside the home acts as a barrier to prevent nestlings from falling out when the door is opened. For more versatility, move the panel upward in the winter to close the house. The 0.625" thick wooden construction aids in insulating the home, and a rendering of a woodpecker on the front adds a bit of style.
