The unit emits distress calls from flickers, downy woodpeckers, and other birds, followed by calls from four different birds of prey. This indicates to woodpeckers that the area is dangerous. The eight different calls can be programmed to sound at random intervals, different volumes, and random or sequential order. Use the five different time buttons to program the break time between calls. The sounds can be emitted anywhere from seventeen seconds to thirty minutes apart, depending on how the unit is programmed. Setting the item to sound at random intervals often works best, as woodpeckers will not become accustomed to sound patterns in this manner. The single speaker has an effective range of approximately one acre. Wall mount the small plastic box with the included bracket, and ensure that it is protected from rain and snow.
